Why Pilates Post-Partum?
Postnatal Pilates is not just about shedding the baby weight; it's about rebuilding strength from the inside out. It's a gentle yet effective exercise regime that focuses on specific muscle groups affected during pregnancy and childbirth. These exercises help strengthen your core muscles, improve posture, and regain pelvic floor control - essential for postpartum healing.

I have been attending antenatal Pilates with Abby since I was 16 weeks pregnant. I initially went to see Abby due to hip pain, then have continued throughout my pregnancy as I have really enjoyed the sessions and found them incredibly beneficial.
As the weeks have gone on Abby has listened to how I have been feeling and tailored the sessions to how my body has changed as my pregnancy has developed. Abby has also taken the time to explain why pains or niggles might be happening which has helped me to understand the symptoms I’ve been experiencing. All exercises have felt safe and I have then enjoyed being able to do different exercises at home if I have felt in a certain way. My sessions with Abby have given me confidence in my body & helped me feel some sense of control, due to an increased understanding of the symptoms that I am experiencing.
Also when everything has been so busy focusing on getting ready for my baby’s arrival, in both my personal and work life, it’s been nice to have an hour to myself to really focus and listen to my body.
I am really looking forward to continuing working with Abby pre and post-natal.

I cannot recommend Abby highly enough. I first visited her when I was 2/3 weeks post-partum after my second child. Knowing full well how little (if not non-existent) post partum recovery and rehab support there is provided through the NHS, I was keen to start my rehab journey as early as possible so that not only I could return to exercise safely & at the right time, but also to support myself with day to day activities that come with having a newborn - such as carrying the car seat or pushing the pram, as I knew with the benefit of hindsight, being told “to do your pelvic floors” post-birth the first time around is nowhere near enough. I was also keen to avoid the mistakes I made with my first child by undertaking little physiotherapy in those early days which ultimately led to a more reactive approach and having to seek physiotherapy support when I started to struggle with back pain and SI joint problems a few months down the line after returning to exercise fully.
Abby was thorough, and knowledgeable and tailored a personalised rehabilitation plan (that we utilised both during 1-1 sessions and at home). The plan was slowly adapted week on week to build up my pelvic floor, and deep core strength and to repair my diastis recti. Abby listened to my concerns & whilst understanding my eagerness to return to exercise having been someone who has always enjoyed regular weight training, running and functional fitness, she provided me with the right guidance to allow me to do so, but at the right time & pace, so not as to hinder any progress made at each stage.
I am now coming up to 4 months post-partum, and I am back enjoying regular functional fitness and running sessions knowing I have built the correct deep core foundations before doing so.
I cannot thank Abby enough for her support and guidance & I would highly recommend her services to any pregnant/post-partum ladies looking for support in these areas.

I’ve really enjoyed the post-natal Pilates for lots of different reasons, just being able to come and do some sessions in the gym has been great, getting away from the kids for a while and has made me want to get back into exercising again, much sooner than I did with my first child. It’s given me confidence that I can get my body back to being nice and strong and healthy without injury. And has also taught me not to push myself too far. I’ve learned an awful lot about my insides.
Abby has set manageable and well-balanced exercises for me to do at home and I really feel they’re helping me. It’s been so nice to learn along the way exactly what the exercises are for and why they’re beneficial.
I’m loving the sessions and enjoy doing the work at home amidst the chaos.
